Custom Cabinets vs. Cabinet Refacing
How do you determine if going with custom cabinets or cabinet refacing is best for you? One thing to consider is if you are planning on replacing the countertop with Granite or Silestone? Many renovation projects that create new custom kitchens almost have to have new cabinets to bring out the beauty of the new kitchen and do the construction project justice.
If you have already removed your countertops it makes more sense to get new cabinetry. With custom cabinets you can upgrade the look of your kitchen, select a color or stain and choose cabinet accessories to improve the space. It will be the “WOW” factor your kitchen desires.
Cabinet Refacing is an option for many home remodeling projects as well. The cost is typically less expensive than replacing the cabinets; however the outcome will not have the dynamic appearance that new cabinets bring to your kitchen remodel.

Granite Countertops vs. Silestone Countertops
Kitchen remodeling for contractors is one of the most design oriented and creative tasks we take on. It is very personal, down to every detail. One in renovation concept in particular is the question regarding which type of countertop to choose. This is a personal question that depends on taste and style, especially in high end kitchen remodels. Some of the products available are Granite Countertops, Silestone Countertops, Concrete Countertops and some other less expensive, such as Tile.
Granite Countertop maintenance is simple and easy, it simply requires a seal to be applied for protection and a re-application once a year to protect the countertop. For an outdoor space, I would recommend using a natural stone in a lighter color tone. In addition, outdoor countertops need to have a seal applied more frequently than those being used indoors.
For home owners that like a more consistent pattern and color with anti-bacterial properties such as “microban”, then Silestone Countertops are a good choice. Custom Kitchens with Silestone are great for achieving a monochromatic look to a space.
